DESCRIPTION:

Mahler has been called “a prophet for an age riddled with doubts and anxieties,” and understanding the composer’s tragedy-filled life is key to appreciating his music. Using new sources available from the past decade, we will unravel Mahler’s personality as we trace its expression in music that brought the Romantic period to a close: works that mark a dramatic change in artistic expression as he sought to reconcile his optimistic worldview with his personal tragedies and impending mortality. 80
