DESCRIPTION:

Explore mythology’s themes and history through Joseph Campbell’s research in comparative mythology, religion and culture. Campbell’s concept of monomyth (one myth) is based on his observation that a common pattern exists beneath the narrative elements of most great myths, regardless of their origin or time of creation. The main themes in this course include the history of mythology; lost myths from ancient eras, early story tellers, heroes and their adaptations, the goddess character; and rituals and spirituality.
