Colorado Governor Bill Ritter Declares May 20, 2008 Day of Lifelong Learning

One Day University, Tuesday, May 20, 2008

The Academy for Lifelong Learning offered a free opportunity to sample up to three learning adventures in one day on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at Wellshire Presbyterian Church, 2999 S. Colorado Blvd.

Over 400 individuals raced through the doors to get tickets for this free event. Many brought their lunch and enjoyed three different classes. Watch for details next spring about this learning opportunity, as it will definitely be back, by popular demand.

9:30-11:30 – Morning classes

1:30-3:30 – Afternoon classes

  • Music of the Civil Rights Movement: Calling the Nation to Moral Account
  • Why Despotic Leaders Destroyed Art: Mao & Others

The Academy is known for having facilitators and lecturers who are experts in their fields. Several are retired professors. All are enthusiastic as they enjoy sharing their passion with others.

The Academy, a nonprofit organization founded in 2003, provides daytime classes for adults. There are two ten-week terms beginning mid-September and mid-February. In the Spring 2008 term close to 500 participants enrolled in 30 courses, taking an average of 2 courses each.

Academy Board President, Diana Wilson said, “This is just a sampling of what we offer at the Academy. We are pleased that people took advantage of this free event to experience these exciting learning opportunities in Denver.”
